Along with its home care, Police HomeCare Services has established a Wellness Centre to offer wellness activities on-site at the Carrington Street premises in Adelaide.

Exercise activities include interval training, balance, cardio-vascular health, intrinsic muscle strengthening, rib mobility, ankle mobility, healthy feet, and hip rehabilitation exercises.

The first class being offered is an exercise class using the GYROTONIC® Method, which is a way of moving that addresses the whole person by stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and improving strength and movement efficiency.

Wellness Centre Gyrotonic GYROKINESIS® Trainer Nadine Welke says the activities offered are important exercises for people of all ages – and are particularly important for older people and people with movement dysfunction or recovering from injury.

“Carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength, and flexibility,” she says.

The Gyrotonic Method involves special equipment to guide, assist and challenge the exerciser. A unique movement practice, it has its roots in yoga, tai chi, gymnastics and dance.

Gyrokinesis applies the same movement principles but is floor-based.

“People from all walks of life take these classes,” Nadine says. “Dancers, older people, athletes, and people recovering from an injury or living with movement dysfunction, all find they can be of benefit. We have clients here in their 20s to their 80s.”

“The exercises can assist with a whole-body approach to post-injury rehabilitation. They help athletes and everyday exercisers improve their performance.

The Gyrotonic Method and Gyrokinesis is practiced in single or two-person classes under the instruction of our qualified Gyrotonic Trainer in the Police HomeCare Services Wellness

Centre on the ground floor of 27 Carrington Street, Adelaide.

The centre is already at half its current capacity, and Nadine and the team are keen to welcome new participants.

Currently, sessions are available Monday to Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 6am – 2pm.

Bookings for single or two- person sessions can be made by calling Police HomeCare Services on or  (08) 8155 5222, or make an enquiry.
