Paint and Sip Day brings colour to Police HomeCare

On Tuesday 29 September, Police HomeCare hosted a Paint and Sip day, with participants enjoying a creative day of painting alongside snacks and beverages (the non-alcoholic kind!).

Executive Director Lee Farrand opened the day with a warm welcome. Clients from our NDIS and Aged Care programs then picked up their brushes, bringing a wide range of skill levels and plenty of enthusiasm. The result was a collection of colourful, inspiring artworks, along with lots of laughter and conversation.

The event was the brainchild of PHC Service Manager Jodie Lees, whose idea proved a wonderful way to build confidence, connection and community among the people we support.

Thank you to Jodie, Lee, our staff and, most of all, our participants for making the day so special. We look forward to more events like this soon.

Support Worker spotlight: Dylan Goedecke

Not every Support Worker can say they have saved a life. Dylan can. Not long after joining Police HomeCare, Dylan was supporting a client at mealtime when they began choking on their food. He stayed calm, acted quickly and used his First Aid training to clear the blockage, and the client was soon breathing again.

It showed me that training isn't just a box to tick. You never know when you'll need it.

Now more than a year with us, Dylan is known for his kindness, patience and warmth. He believes great support starts with listening and treating people the way he would want to be treated. Outside of work, he loves sport, movies, the outdoors and travelling to new places. We're proud to have Dylan on the team. Next time you see him, say hello.

Wellness tips from Nadine Welke

Kitchen bench push-ups. Place your hands on the edge of a bench, a little wider than shoulder-width, and move your feet back so your body is on a diagonal. Lower your chest to the bench, with your chest in line with your hands, and push back up. Do 5 to 10 push-ups, working up to 3 sets of 10.

Split sit to stand. Sit on a chair or stool and move one foot forward and one foot back. Cross your arms over your chest, bend forward from the hips and stand up. The foot closest to you will be the leg working harder. Do 5 to 10 times on one side, then change legs.

REABLE Wellness Centre news

Did you know that physiotherapy and exercise prescription are fully covered under Clinical Supports? If you are keen to start an exercise program to regain some of your lost strength, please contact us at the office or email our physiotherapist, Stella, at wellness@policehomecare.com.au.

We now have a wonderful remedial massage therapist in clinic on Thursdays. Bindi Rice is trained in Visceral Release, CranioSacral Therapy and Ortho-Bionomy, as well as remedial massage techniques. Massage and manual therapy also complement an exercise program, helping muscles deliver more power and increasing joint range of motion. Please contact Nadine at wellness@policehomecare.com.au to arrange a booking with Bindi.

Office updates

The warm weather is upon us and not a moment too soon. The Police HomeCare office has been buzzing with activity, including a cameo appearance by Mabel, our client's pet rabbit, since the completion of our renovation. A big thank you to Tim, Rob and Candice for creating the modern and spacious work environment we are all enjoying. Please feel more than welcome to come have a look and say hello anytime you're in the area.

Welcome to the team

We are lucky to welcome Sunita Sahi, our new Head of Clinical Governance, who is responsible for ensuring that everyone we look after has their healthcare needs met and their comfort in check.

You're invited to our Christmas party

Cassandra has been busy kindly organising our Christmas party on 18 December at the Walkerville Bowling Club, to which you are all invited.

We hope you enjoy the springtime weather, and as always, give us a ring or send us an email if you have any questions, complaints or suggestions about what we're doing.
