Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about NDIS.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s government-funded program that provides individualised support to people aged under 65 with permanent and significant disabilities, helping them achieve goals in daily life, education, employment, community participation, and health.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are under 65
  • Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category visa
  • Have a permanent disability that significantly impacts daily living
  • Are over 65 but have been a NDIS participant before turning this age

Is Police HomeCare a registered NDIS Provider?

Yes, we are. You can find us under the registered NDIS provider list here.

Do your staff have experience with my specific disability or needs?

Our team has supported individuals with a wide range of disabilities, and we match you with staff who understand your specific needs. We provide ongoing training, value your lived experience, and focus on delivering safe, respectful, and personalised care. That being said, there are some circumstances where we might not be the most qualified organisation to take care of you. In such cases, we will refer you to an appropriate alternative.

How do you handle travel costs?

There is a simple fee of $1 per kilometre whilst your support worker is on shift and driving you.

What are your hourly rates?

We offer high standards of service and competitive rates. Please refer to our pricing guide.

How do I get started?

Would you like help getting started with us? We’d love to chat.

If you’d like to choose a provider other than Police HomeCare, we are still happy to help. You can also check your eligibility on the NDIS website. If eligible, you can apply online, by phone or through a Local Area Coordinator. Once approved, you’ll work with a service coordinator or NDIS planner to create a plan based on your goals and needs. From there, you can choose providers and start accessing support. You can send an inquiry using the contact form below.

What happens if my NDIS plan does not meet my needs?

If you have a Care Plan, but it isn’t working for you, you can speak with your Support Coordinator to request a plan review by providing supporting evidence and provider feedback.

What supports does the NDIS fund?

Supports are funded by the NDIS if they are deemed reasonable and necessary and include items such as:

  • Personal care (e.g., showering, dressing)
  • Allied health services (OT, physiotherapy, speech)
  • Social participation and community access
  • Transport, assistive technology, and more

What are the main funding categories?

  1. Core – everyday activities and personal care
  2. Capacity Building – skill development and therapy
  3. Capital – equipment, technology, and home/vehicle modifications

How do I manage my NDIS plan?

You have three plan management options:

  • Agency-managed (by NDIA)
  • Plan-managed (through a registered provider)
  • Self-managed (by you or your nominee)

What are service agreements?

Service agreements are formal contracts between you and your service providers, outlining the services to be provided, costs, and expectations. They ensure transparency and enable accountability.

Will the NDIS fund housing or home modifications?

Yes. If considered reasonable and necessary, the NDIS may fund Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), and structural home modifications.

How can I get the most from my plan?

To maximise your plan:

  • Set clear, meaningful goals
  • Choose reliable providers
  • Track your supports and spending
  • Review your plan regularly – Support Coordinators and Local Area Coordinators (LACs) can help you navigate this
